New Form 1 selection exercise to help in weeding out cartels

Ministry Of Education through Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha recently introduced new Secondary School placement formula for candidates who sat for their 2020 KCPE exams from March 22nd to 24th 2021.

This year’s process will be different, Education ministry will do one selection and placement, unlike the previous one where the candidates and their parents would choose their preferred school they would wish to join.

They also noted that this selection is likely to affect those students who scored 350 marks and below because these students usually get the school they had selected.

They also announced that over 8000 students scored over 400 marks while 282,098 scored between 300 and 399 marks.

Professor Magoha said that this new process will ensure that every student gets a fair opportunity.

We want a system that will pick the best brains from Kiandutu slums in Thika and take them to Alliance Girls High school,”He said

The selection process is usually on merit, candidates school of choice and regional balance and affirmative which favours the candidate in the regional areas.

He added that the government’s plan to sponsor 9000 students from poor background is still on.

“I wish to assure the country that the Ministry has already conducted an audit of all new and existing vacancies in all our private and public schools to enable us to admit all learners under the Free Day Secondary Education programme.

“We are determined to work with the relevant agencies to ensure that no candidate misses a place in secondary school,” He said.
