TSC promotions: 1,208 long serving deputies to be given schools

A total of 1,208 primary deputy headteachers will early next year get promoted to serve as headteachers in various regular and special need education schools.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has advertised a total of 5,690 promotion slots targeting school administrators.

According to the TSC score sheet the deputy headteachers who are currently acting as heads of institutions (HOI) will have upper hand in promotion.

Experience in deputizing a headteacher will matter most. The period one has served as a deputy headteacher will prove his fitness for the job.

TSC had previously indicated that those who served as deputy headteachers for a period not less than five years should be considered.

In the Advert number 03/2024 the Commission has listed the requirements for promotion of the deputy headteachers as follows;

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT

For appointment to this grade, a teacher must: –

  1. have served as Deputy Head Teacher II TSC Scale 9 for a minimum period of three (3) years;
  2. have satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process;
  3. have demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers; and
  4. meet any other requirement the Commission may deem necessary.

After application the teachers will be invited for interviews after successful shortlisting. They will produce a number of documents before the interviewing panels.

Some of the documents include the TSC appointment letter to current grade, and the last three years TPAD ratings as well as KCPE and KCSE performance for their schools.

A number of documents will also be required for those who will be successful inline with the Kenya constitution.

Below are the five documents that are mandatory inline with Chapter six of the Kenyan Constitution on ‘Leadership and Integrity’.

  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
  • Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
  • Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
  • Clearance from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
  • A Clearance Certificate from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)

Those in acting positions will be confirmed and retained in their current stations.
