Primary school teachers who upgraded their Primary Teacher Education (PTE) certificates to the Diploma Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) will have additional advantage in the upcoming teacher replacements.
This was revealed by TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia during stakeholders engagement forum at KICD headquarters in Nairobi on Wednesday this week.
Macharia was responding to a question thrown at her by TV47 journalist who wanted to know why the Commission has forsaken the P1 teachers who upgraded to DPTE as was required by TSC.
However Macharia in a rejoinder said the Commission has not forsaken the teachers but has awarded them five more marks than the P1 certificate holders in the recent advertised replacement vacancies.
TSC has this week advertised 8,707 teaching jobs on permanent and pensionable (pnp) terms for primary, junior and secondary school teachers to apply starting Tuesday, 31st December 2024.
In an advert that was released by TSC on Tuesday this week 5,862 posts for primary schools, 21 posts for junior schools and 2,824 posts for secondary schools were declared.
However TSC said the online application portal will be activated from 31st December for fourteen days to allow qualified teachers to apply.
In the advert TSC listed three key requirements for those seeking for the slots. One is required to be a Kenyan citizen.
He or she should hold at least a P1 certificate in the case of primary schools or a diploma in education in the case of junior and secondary schools. One must also be a registered teacher with TSC.
The application for the replacement vacancies will be strictly done through the TSC online platform from 31st December to 13th January.
The Commission said the vacancies arose after teachers exited the teaching service through natural attrition which include retirement, resignation and death.
A significant number of PTE teachers went back to college to upgrade to DPTE which is inline with the new curriculum.
The Commission has indicated its plans to scrap the PTE certificate and replace with DPTE as the minimum requirement for employing primary school teachers.
Below is the advert that was released by TSC this week that seeks to replace 8,707 teachers.
