Students from Lugulu Girls High School in Bungoma County held demonstrations on Tuesday to protest the defilement of one of their colleagues.
Learning was disrupted at the school as the irate students took to the streets.
The 306 candidates walked from their school compound to Webuye Police Station where they demanded the arrest of the perpetrator.
They carried placards and sang protest songs demanding that justice be done.
The student is said to have been defiled on Saturday morning when she was taking a bath before morning classes.
She was rescued by a fellow student who appeared at the scene and began screaming for help.
The man fled as other students were woken up by the screams.
The student was immediately taken to the school’s sick bay where nurses administered first aid.
On Tuesday, Bungoma County quality education assurance officer Caleb Omondi addressed the students urging them to return to school.
He assured them that the police have taken up the matter and the perpetrator will be arrested.
Bungoma residents and parents at the school led by Mukasa Kilwake also condemned the incident calling for speedy investigations.
Nominated MP Gideon Keter said on Twitter: “Police should move with speed & arrest this crooks who rapped a girl in Lugulu Girls High School in Bungoma County. The school management is failing, if they have to wait until students protest. MOE should not wait for the media for them to act.”
